5 Main Types of Industrial Rivets
A Rivet is a mechanical fastener that is
made of a smooth, cylindrical body, and a tail that looks more like a metallic
pin. Rivets are non-threaded usually made of steel or, aluminum. Rivets are an
essential tool in machine and structure construction. Rivets are used as
permanent fasteners in mechanical industries. Rivets are available in various
shapes and sizes.
* Blind Rivets:- As its name suggests, these
can be installed on one side. They are ideal for projects that have access.
Blind rivets are inserted into the holes drilled in the parts to be joined, and
a particular tool is used to pull the dowel through the body of the rivet.
* Solid Rivets:- These
rivets are made of a shaft and head that are deformed with a hammer or a rivet
gun. Solid Rivets are used in applications where accuracy and safety are
important. Common head styles of these rivets are countersunk, round, flat,
universal, button, oval, pan, etc.
* Countersunk Rivets:-
Countersunk Head Rivets are also known as flat rivets and are used in
countersunk holes. These rivets are made of stainless steel, carbon steel, or
alloy steel that making them highly durable for high-strength applications.
* Semi Tubular Rivet:- These rivets are also
known as tubular rivets and are the same as solid rivets, but it has a partial
hole at their top, opposite to the head. The purpose of these rivets is to
minimize the amount of torque needed for application by rolling the tubular
portion outward.
* Structural Rivets:- Structural rivets are those rivets that are particularly designed to fix elements where high resistance to both tensile and shear strengths are required. These rivets are leak resistant and provide excellent clamp-up torque. Structural rivets are suitable for structural or, difficult applications.
