What
are lock Nuts?
A Lock nut is an internally threaded fastener
that possesses locking ability either by itself or in concert with another
component. Lock nuts are typically made from stainless steel. These nuts don’t
loosen easily when placed on bolts. Lock nuts are available in various styles
and grades. A lock nut is also known as a locking nut, or self–locking nut, and
they are almost used in conjunction with a mating bolt to fasten components
together. The most ordinary lock nut styles are Anco and Tri-lok nuts. The
anco-style lock nut is a self-locking nut with a pin made from stainless steel,
on the other side, the Tri Lok style nut is a prevailing torque lock nut that
is filing resistant to its rotation due to the thread wrap on its top thread of
this nut.
How does it work?
* There
are importantly two lock nut types: Uses friction between mating threads to
prevent loosening: These lock nuts are designed with flanged grooves and they
need greater torque to tighten and loosen. These lock nuts don’t spin freely
along with the fastener shaft because begin to clamp as you start to rotate
them. This means it takes a long time for its application.
*
Designed with a positive locking device: These types of nuts rotate easily
during the process of tightening and loosening. These nuts lock, only when
positive action is performed to lock them in their current position, like
inserting a pin. These types of lock nut secure more fastening.
