An Introduction of Square Nuts
A Square Nut or a square head nut is a steel fastener
with four sides nut, that is designed for use with a square head bolt and flat
washer. These types of nuts offer a great surface that connects with the part
being fastened and therefore provides greater resistance to loosening. Square
nuts are usually mated with square-headed bolts. These nut works very well in
tight places when using a wrench or pliers and are less likely to become
rounded off after repeated loosening.
The Square nut can be used as a small fastener for applications to
greater ones. The sharp corner of this nut was commonly destructive to the wood
or metal surrounding the fastener. The square nuts themselves were commonly
forged with a flat side and a convex side. The flat side was created to allow
the nuts to fit flat against a flat washer, while the convex side served to
provide a small bit of comfort when the nut is used under a hubcap. Modern
manufacturing continues to use the square nut in the construction of many
furniture items.
